that area was in way before there was shapeshift,
hence its not poor coding but possibly an oversight.

The ambusher can either use shadowwalk (to make it instantaneous) or
hunt. The default is shadowwalk.

it is set to hunt, so whomever coded it, intended players to die..
besides, where is the fun in shapeshifting and just walking through DoT?
