What's up with Retreat?

I've died 3 times the past 2 days, trying to retreat on the vertical axis after a skill (strike or a backstab). It's almost like the game thinks that the direction I am retreating in does not exist.

Works fine if I retreat upwards but only if I cast a spell, will have an issue if I retreat after a skill.
Works fine if the direction was not upwards.

Is there something in retreat regarding skills and directions?

The other potential thing is my banshee is wailing in the room I am retreating too... could this cause the issue?

I swear there is something going on, it's normal to fail a retreat... but 10+ attempts in a row not so normal... It's just started happening the past 2 days as I have started stabbing and striking from a room on the vertical axis. I'm pretty sure I could replicate the behaviour.

An update... I can replicate the behavior, also can confirm it only happens retreating up... unless the banshee is involved in the issue somehow.

Retreat hasn't been modified AFAIK so you're seeing something that has been there for a while. Retreat in the upward direction is deemed more difficult that other directions. Builders can also set flags on rooms or exits that make retreating more difficult. Flee works the same way. I would suggest having fly up and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks Teker, that explains it. I have perm fly in my blast mode, but not in my strike or stab modes.

Definitely fly. Definitely not a recent change.

For some reason, fleeing or retreating up always fails if you aren't flying. Just a quirk of the game. Don't matter if its thin air above you, or a stairway.

If you are in the habit of attempting to flee like a pansy, and failing... consider a trigger to shapeshift into a tree if you fail a lot of flees in a row.

(Yes I do have a similar a trigger, and yes, it is called PANSY).

Nice idea about the trigger. I can remember at least a few times I died to several failed flees.
